Day 205 of 365 - Beyond the Blue Door

2009.07.24

When I first looked at this door with light streaming in all around it and through it, the only thought that came to mind was, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This is another example where the right equipment would have yielded a much better image, but this was the best I could do with the little point-and-shoot in my back pocket. I just want to know how a photographer doesn’t just walk around all day everyday with a high-powered DLSR and a few lenses attached to themselves at all times.

When I see this door there are so many cultural references that come to mind, but the biggest is every single song from In Through the Out Door. They all are playing in my head, especially Fool in the Rain. The more time I spend focusing on still pictures, the more time I spend connecting music in my head to the images my eyes see. The power of these creative forces on the human mind is astounding.

So, here is to riding around in Chris Werner’s Datsun 2000 Roadster back in 1980 with the wind blowing in our hair and our only concern what girl we were going to hit up at what fast-food joint for free lunch. I can still hear the roar of the engine as a backdrop to Robert Plant’s amazing vocals on this cassette tape as we drove.

And so it goes...
