In just a few days my oldest son heads to Africa for a missions trip. He will spend three weeks working with orphans and kids who have lost their parents and most of their relatives to AIDS. The lucky kids among all of them are educated at a school where they get to eat once a day. The level of need in this place is so extreme. Every article of clothing, everything my son takes with him has such a high degree of value in Africa.
One of the things we resolved to do was have him take as much as he could and leave everything there. So he will leave with a fifty pound duffle, a guitar and a carry-on bag stuffed with all he can take. When he returns he will return with just a small carry-on with his journal and ipod and the clothes on his back. He will leave everything else their for others to use.
Among the items he will be taking with him is a guitar with a hard-case. He will use that guitar to help lead worship and to share his faith with the children. Then he will leave it along with all kinds of extra strings and instruction books so that the guitar becomes a resource for worship for all who live there.
This is a picture of the guitar, soon it will be half a world away doing what it was made to do. May God bless this guitar and may it for many years and countless people sing His praises and share His love.
